Young-kyu Song, b. 1972
Born in Korea, Young-kyu obtained both his BFA and MFA from the Hong-Ik University College of Fine Arts, Seoul in 1999 and 2001 respectively. In 2001, Young-kyu held his first solo exhibition titled The Confessions at the In-sa Art Space in Seoul and has participated in several group shows in Korea, including an exhibition at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Kwachon in 2000. His dark and somber works reveal only the heads, hands and feet of his elusive denizens that seem to simultaneously merge in and out of the background, much like human puppets.
