Born in Korea, Sung-nam completed his BFA at the Hong-Ik University in Seoul in 1995. Recent shows include solo exhibitions at the Sungkok Art Museum in Seoul in 2000, the Yukyung Gallery in Seoul in 1997 and the Hanjeon Plaza Gallery in Seoul in 1996, as well as a number of group exhibitions. The figures in Kirn's work perform their perfunctory roles under the blinding light of a stage set. Their faces are consistently hidden from view and veiled in darkness, emphasizing the anonymity, as opposed to the individual character of these actors. Inversely, the actors become the props supporting the birds. The bird leitmotif is central to Kim's work, and raises the issue of life and death.
